Revised Rainfall Threshold in the Indonesian Landslide Early Warning System

Landslides are one of the most disastrous natural hazards that frequently occur in Indonesia. In 2017, Balai Sabo developed an Indonesia Landslide Early Warning System (ILEWS) by utilizing a single rainfall threshold for entire nation, leading to inaccuracy landslide predictions. The study aimed improve accuracy system updating threshold. We analyzed 420 events Java with 1-day and 3-day effective antecedent each event. Rainfall data were obtained from Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM), which is also used ILEWS. propose four methods derive thresholds: first existing applied ILEWS, second third use average minimum values trigger landslides, respectively, fourth uses value induces major landslides. receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis evaluate predictability thresholds. method showed best results compared others, this provided good prediction low error value. chosen was then Sabo-ILEWS.
